All services offered by NETPLEX are subject to the rules and policies expressed in this document. By subscribing to and using NETPLEX or a NETPLEX service, you agree to abide by this agreement and all applicable rules, and to pay all applicable NETPLEX fees. By using NETPLEX and NETPLEX services, you also agree to ensure that any person to whom you grant access to NETPLEX or a NETPLEX service will abide by all terms and rules. NETPLEX reserves the right to modify our usage rules and policies at any time. If you find the usage policies and rules unacceptable in some way, you are free to terminate your NETPLEX subscription at any time.

In order to ensure that all customers can fully utilize and enjoy NETPLEX and NETPLEX services, we ask all users to abide by the following rules:

  • Mass unsolicited email (ie. spam) to users of our system or other systems is ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED.  This causes a severe burden on network resources, and causes a large amount of complaints to be sent to our system administrators. This practice, known as spamming, will not be tolerated and your account WILL be terminated without notice if this rule is broken. Users who send mass unsolicited email through our system will incur a charge of $1000, plus a charge of $25 for each spam message sent through our system, $10 for each complaint received by the NETPLEX staff as a result of the spam, and $25 for each message bounced back to NETPLEX as a result of the spam. Mailbombers will also be billed at the same rate.
  • You are allowed only one login session active at a time (unless otherwise authorized).
  • You may stay logged in for an acceptible period of time per session, but ONLY if you're actively using the system. If you're not actively using your connection, please disconnect so that other users may utilize the system. To ensure this rule is followed, NETPLEX enforces a six hour session disconnect (you may log back in immediately, but be warned that abuse of this may be subject to having your account terminated immediately without notice).
  • NETPLEX reserves the right to terminate any connection that is suspected to be non-interactive (ie. idle). NETPLEX currently uses inactivity timers to detect dialup connections that are inactive. "Inactivity" is currently defined as 30 consecutive minutes where no network traffic is being generated. NETPLEX reserves the right to change this definition of "inactivity".
  • NETPLEX reserves the right to modify or discontinue certain services or features on our system. We will attempt to inform all users of such changes 30 days or more in advance, but do not provide this as a guarantee of such notification.
  • We make every effort to keep all user email private. However, NETPLEX system operators may need to view your mail if we believe it is necessary to protect ourselves or other users from injury or damage. If we have reason to believe a subscriber is involved in illegal activities, which might result in the authorities seizing our systems, we will review the subscriber's mail for our own protection. We will NOT monitor email unless we believe it is being misused.
  • NETPLEX implements SPAM filtering on E-mail by default. We make every effort to ensure that these filters do not block legitimate E-mail, however, NETPLEX does not guarantee that legitimate incoming and/or outgoing E-mail will not be blocked by our filters. If you wish to receive your E-mail unfiltered, please send E-mail to support@netplex.net.
  • Do not use NETPLEX for anything that might be illegal or unlawful. NETPLEX may not be used to encourage or promote unlawful drugs, gambling, pornography, prostitution, child pornography, robbery, computer viruses, hacking/cracking/scanning other computer systems, software copyright infringement, music or image copyright infringement, or other crimes.
  • Do not try to gain access to system areas private to NETPLEX. Do not try to hack or crack our systems just to show that it can be done. Do not run unattended processes or server daemons except on authorized machines set aside for such activities. Doing so negatively affects system resources and reliability. This includes MUDs, MUSHs, web servers, IRC bots, etc.
  • Any user whose activities disrupt or damage system functionality will be held financially responsible for any costs incurred in repairing the affected systems.
  • You are not authorized to use your personal home page for commercial purposes unless a commercial home page account has been purchased from NETPLEX.
  • The contents of your home directory should not exceed your assigned quota. Users exceeding their quota will automatically have their storage locked (other than the ability to delete files) until the size has dropped below the assigned quota.
